'FIGURES' Showcase for ERAU's Mori Hosseini Student Union

While studying at ERAU, I created a series of original illustrations for Black History Month, which were displayed in the Mori Hosseini Student Union. This project continued a tradition I had begun the previous year.

In most BHM displays, the focus is on memorializing prominent figures during slavery or segregation. I felt that it was necessary to to take alternative approach in black history representation and celebrate Black people who have been exceptional in their respective fields and offered innovation.

The scope for this project was to capture African Americans (AA) who are exceptional at their craft or who have accomplished exceptional feats. I wanted to break the mold of only highlighting AAs who were most prominent during times of slavery and segregation. Instead, I showcased the innovators and celebrated their accomplishments.

The 'LEARN MORE' element challenged students from all walks of life to become more educated about the Black mogules in our modern world. Below are a few samples from the project.
